Administrators from the Division of Student Affairs and Campus Life discussed recent project updates and budget cuts within the division at the Ithaca College Student Governance Council’s March 9 meeting.
Baruch Whitehead, a professor of music education in the School of Music, Theatre and Dance, was presented with a New York State Senate Commendation award from Sen. Lea Webb’s office Feb. 19. Whitehead was honored for his work with the Dorothy Cotton Jubilee Singers, a choir named after civil rights activist Dorothy Cotton.

Baruch Whitehead, a professor of music education in the School of Music, Theatre and Dance, was presented with a New York State Senate Commendation award from Sen. Lea Webb’s office Feb. 19. The awards, given in honor of Black History Month, celebrated the work of five local community leaders from the Southern Tier. Whitehead was honored for his work with the Dorothy Cotton Jubilee Singers, a choir named after civil rights activist Dorothy Cotton.

Administrators say IC is on track to reduce budget deficit at Dollars and Sense

At the March 6 Dollars and Sense meeting, Rakin “Rock” Hall, vice president for enrollment management, gave updates on enrollment efforts, and Tim Downs, senior vice president for finance and administration and chief financial officer, presented a budget outlook for Fiscal Year 2027. With admittance numbers on track to meet enrollment goals, Downs said the budget balancing process is headed in the right direction.  
In an email from Office of Student Engagement leadership sent March 6, officers and advisers of student organizations were notified they will no longer receive financial support for travel outside of Tompkins County.

Student organizations will no longer receive financial support from the Office of Student Engagement or the Student Governance Council for travel outside of Tompkins County beginning in August 2026.

Faculty council discusses lack of CAPS counselors and budget updates

The Ithaca College Faculty Council met March 3 to hear from the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services about cuts to staff next year and to hear budget updates after the State of the College meeting.

After fighting into double overtime, the No. 23 Ithaca College women’s lacrosse fell 15-14 to the University of Scranton Royals on March 7 at Higgins Stadium. The Bombers held a steady lead from the middle of the first quarter into the fourth quarter, but could not hang on to the No. 17 Division III team. The team’s first home game of 2026 also marked its first loss of the season.

Harry Styles has let the light in and beautifully emulated love in its truest form with his fourth studio album, “Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally.” The album was released March 6, and was Styles’ first studio album since his Album Of The Year, “Harry’s House” in 2022. In true Harry fashion, the English singer/songwriter has returned with a style that is simply unmatched. 
There was no clear communication between SGC and SACL before $20,000 was withdrawn from the appropriations fund. This lack of communication caused a trickle-down effect, leading SGC’s communication to be lackluster with student organizations looking for answers. 
Editorial: Transparency is key to addressing problems with student org budgets

So many people’s college experiences are built upon student organizations and extracurriculars. The beneficial impacts of a thriving, student-driven campus ecosystem rely heavily on such organizations. As a campus community, we must all work together to find solutions for student organizations and clubs on campus to be adequately supported.
